Hi,

I know there's still a lot about that question out there, but I just had an strange experience in the online MTG.

My opponent had Serra's Emissary with protection from creatures. However, when I used Blizzard Brawl his first creature died (not Serra's Emissary) and I thought maybe it's because of the sorcery. Then I attacked with all creatures and again deathtouch killed teh Emissary. That's odd. Anyone an idea? Or am I just stupid?

Blizzard Brawl

Not Blizzard Brawl is the damage source but the creature it targets is. With protection from creatures it would work.

Sure you had protection from creatures?

If any effect, like the ones of Leyline of Punishment or Skullcrack for example, forbids the prevention of damage, Protection from XY won't help when being dealt damage, since Protection from XY tries to prevent damage:
 

• 702.16e Any damage that would be dealt by sources that have the stated quality to a permanent or player with protection is prevented.

Did any effect like the above ones exist?

Too bad that I didn't make a screenshot.

I am sure that it had protection from creatures because I had an almost only creatures deck.

I'm quite sure that Leyline of Punishment or Skullcrack weren't in the game.

Maybe I missed something, maybe there's a slip in the programm.

 

But thanks for letting me know that my thoughts were right, in principle.
